Sambath My
Sambath My (Project Manager) is currently doing a master of development studies, specialising in gender and development at the University of Melbourne. He is committed to promoting gender equality and social justice.
He has been working on gender and development issues for almost a decade with local and international NGOs before pursuing his first time study in Australia. He previously held various positions, such as gender trainer, program officer and manager, department head and senior technical adviser. Sambath’s areas of working on gender issues are gender mainstreaming in a project cycle; gender, decentralization and politics; and women’s rights in general.
Sambath lives a simple life and is trying to put Buddhist teachings into daily practice. He strongly believes that a success in life is a choice rather than a destiny. Learning from experience of oneself and that of others is a key to success.
Sambath wants to see CANS grows and acts as a catalyst to assist Cambodian scholars to achieve academic successes and to bring their knowledge and experience back to Cambodia. He also wishes to see CANS implements its development project – the Joy of Reading (JoR), in a more sustainable way by creating and promoting a mechanism of social responsibility by the receiving community rather than viewing aid as charity.
